Is my password sent anywhere?

The strength check runs only in your browser. The optional leak check sends just the first 5 characters of the password's SHA-1 hash to Have I Been Pwned — the password itself never leaves your device.

Why is a long passphrase stronger than P@ssw0rd!?

Attackers try common words with predictable substitutions first. Length and randomness matter more than symbols.
