Questions
Which favicon sizes do I need?
favicon.ico (16, 32 and 48 px) for browsers, a 180 px apple-touch-icon for iPhones, and 192 and 512 px icons for Android and installable web apps. The ZIP contains all of them.
Why does the Apple icon have a background?
iOS fills transparent areas with black, so the Apple touch icon is always given a solid background.
My new favicon isn't showing.
Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Hard-refresh, open the site in a private window, or add ?v=2 to the icon links.
